Simply put, yes, she is. The duties of a Local Clerk and County Clerk align in many ways such as, but not limited to:

  • Serving as the Chief Election Official;
  • Custodian of all vital and local documents as well as their preservation and/or destruction;
  • Preparation of meeting notices and agendas, preparation of meeting packets and minutes for multiple boards and committees;
  • Represent their office on multiple statutorily required boards;
  • Serve in an official capacity on behalf of their elected boards on community related boards; and
  • Serve and participate with their peers on local and state committees for professional development.

How will Barb ensure all elections administered by her are secure and accurate?

As an experienced elected Clerk, Barb understands the responsibility she has to the public in creating a calm and secure work environment that gives employees and residents a genuine sense of trust and security. This type of environment, along with highly talented and trustworthy employees – and strict adherence to Election Law, resulted in 100% accuracy when her election results were canvassed by Oakland County for both of her terms in office at Independence Township. Barb also provided the necessary training and tools for employees to be successful when performing their assigned duties during the election process. Barb will instill this type of collaboration in all divisions under the purview of the
Oakland County Clerk. To further this objective, Barb will:

PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY FOR ALL DIVISIONS UNDER THE PURVIEW OF THE COUNTY CLERK;

PROMOTE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL EMPLOYEES IN THE CLERK’S DIVISIONS;

ADVOCATE FOR PUBLIC AND MEDIA EDUCATION;

ENCOURAGE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND PARTICIPATION; AND

INITIATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS BY PARTNERING WITH HIGH SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES.
